Dear Future AP Calculus AB Student!

I am so excited that you have chosen to take AP Calculus AB next year! Whether you are coming from Math 3 or Math 3/Precalc this class will be a fun challenge for you. In terms of workload, you will not have any assigned homework and classwork will not be graded. That being said, your grade will be made up of tests and quizzes. Don’t let that scare you, the quizzes are mainly simple memorization facts and all tests can be retaken for a better grade!

The math involved in calculus is fairly simple and can be used to explain a wide variety of real life situations. One of the most challenging aspects of calculus is that everything builds off of past knowledge. Unlike other math courses you have taken, everything we learn next year will all be connected and you will be required to remember it all. For a sneak peak, you could check out the calculus section in IXL!

On the first day of school we will have a super short quiz to put everything from PRE (before) calculus behind us. 

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to me via email or remind! Remember, you aren’t alone this summer completing these assignments and you won’t be alone next year in this class. You are now part of the AP Calc AB Family! I am so excited to get to know you next year.

I acknowledge that I am requesting an advanced course, which will require additional homework and studying; which is how I will earn by GPA boost.

I know and understand that in order to earn that GPA boost, I will need to commit to prioritizing good attendance, in-class behavior, and focus, and always ask my teacher when I don't understand something.

I recognize that in addition to earning my grade and GPA boost, I am also working toward an end of the year AP exam. Earning a score of 3 or higher on the exam is how students earn college credit, but a score of 1 or 3 will not negatively affect my course grade.

I recognize that Watsonville High will pay the $99 exam fee for me, funds permitting, but not taking the exam will incur a fee of $40 that I may be responsible for, unless the reason for missing the exam is out of my control.
